Pregnancy

Pre and post natal Osteopathy can aid your body through  the biomechanical adjustments and hormonal changes experienced during pregnancy.

Treatment can help you through the changes that the pressure of your growing bump puts on your joints and the effects this can have to your posture and the way you move.

We use conservative treatment to relieve aches and pains associated with pregnancy by relaxing your muscles and releasing joint stiffness.

More About Pregnancy Treatments

About pregnancy treatments

Pre-natal treatment is gentle and adapted to suit the patients changing needs throughout their pregnancy.  Treatments can help to keep joints and muscles relaxed and reduce pain so it can cope more with the increased weight and shift in the centre of gravity.

Osteopathic treatments for post-natal women can be a great help too, assisting the body as it is adjusting back and your hormones, muscles and ligaments are changing again. It also helps with relieving pain and tension commonly caused from cradling and lifting an infant.

What to expect from the treatment

We use massage, stretches and joint articulation to relieve pain and tension making your pregnancy more comfortable.

You may also receive some advice about gentle exercises or postural changes to help you further.

Is it safe?

Osteopaths are highly trained and regulated by a governing body called the General Osteopathic Council. They are trained to detect when to treat and when to refer for more tests. Osteopathic treatment is safe during pregnancy but usually suggested to  wait for the first scan at 12 weeks to make sure treatment is appropriate for the pregnancy's progression and mother.

After care

You may be given advice by your osteopath to make adjustments to lifestyle or exercises to help.  Some people may experience some tenderness after treatment, similar to post exercise soreness, but this should only last for 24-48 hours after treatment.
